I am thankful:
1. that i am not one of the "tweens" that live in my apt. complex and congregate outside by my patio ALL THE FRICKIN' TIME. They are lame. Seriously. We were WAY cooler than they are. Posers.
2. my kitty cat who likes to snuggle...although it's usually not when I want to
3. getting to see my Rylee Bear this week...I miss her so much!
4. actually, getting to see EVERYONE this week. I miss my family.
5. for being much, much, much better than I have been in a long long time
6. having great friends who are ALWAYS there to support me, even when I'm a total hot mess
7. ALMOST having my car paid off. It's in sight. Two more months!
8. the painters are almost done. my patio is a disaster. each day it gets rearranged. ugh.
9. not having any money, yet somehow managing to pull it off.
10. a lot of things.

Busy Beaver
I have been uber busy this week. It's good for me. Keeps my mind occupied. Keeps my soul happy. Having some T issues, but that's par for the course. Not ever really sure what's going on there, but I am not letting it get to me. I am making personal goals and STICKING TO THEM. I am really proud of myself, if I do say so! :)
Aside: a bug just flew down my shirt. Ew.
I had a computer training today and the GISD computers were not working well, so it didn't go as smoothly as planned. But I did learn some things that will help me/us - GISD nurses.
The Mexicans are still painting the patio/apts. I wish they would hurry up. They got paint on my patio furniture and my screen door. Assholes. And one keeps singing. He is TERRIBLE! STFU! Seriously.
Tomorrow is Margaritas at El Patron! Happy Hour with my friend and then coming home to get ready to go to Hillsboro. We are having Early Thanksgiving for Darrel since he'll be on the rig over Actual Thanksgiving. I am making spinach dip. Judy-style. I am also making that for our luncheon tomorrow. I can't wait! I don't want to share. :)
Not much going on other than that. Just work keeping me busy busy busy. I hope you all have a great Friday and I'll chat with you soon!

Setting Goals and actually MAKING them!
Today I set my goal to walk for at least 30 minutes. I did so! I walked about 1 1/2 miles and burned 112 calories. Not that that will help with my margarita/chips/salsa/queso consumption last night, but it's a start!
I am pretty tired today. Working out and the cat not letting me sleep has taken its toll. :) I'm old. But I'm trying.
There are some people here painting the apts. One guy is singing in Spanish. All I can understand is something about "numbers". Not very helpful. And he doesn't have a good voice. STFU! :)
Really not much going on. Just getting prepared for Thanksgiving at Mom's. I am soooo excited about it! Everyone should be there (Christmas is going to be small this year), so it'll be good times. Karaoke, games, food, family, chaos! What's more fun than that!!!
Well, I am going to log off for now. I need to start cleaning this apt and take a shower. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Forced Inspiration
And I'm not talking about breathing here....
The GISD Nurses are in a challenge with other GISD employees to see who has the most participation (percentage-wise) for a health/fitness program. The end result is a 5K. Hmmmm....
Anyone who knows me knows that I DON'T RUN. I have asthma and it makes my lungs clamp down like a vice. I'm a walker...not a runner. A lover...not a fighter. A bookworm...not an athlete.
However, I have always thought it would be awesome if I were a runner. Lots of my friends are. And there are lots of benefits to running when it comes to getting in exercise for the week and changing your body into something more pleasing and healthy...to me at least.
I have been thinking about doing this program. I think it seems like a good way to start. I am also going to OFFICIALLY give up smoking and drinking (well, not totally drinking....but you know what I mean) to help me achieve this goal. I'd like your input on it. Tell me what you think.
I am sure I will not be prepared to run the 5K, but we can walk it...so that's cool. But sometime in the future I'd like to try to run a 5K. I am going to have get clearance with my doctor first, but I am hoping she'll give me some meds or tips on how to avoid having a huge asthma attack while I prepare for this. And to make sure my lupus won't stand in the way. I have aches and pains all the time, but I am hoping by getting into better shape - it'll help with some of that...at least a little.

Today at work was a mess. Nothing bad...just busy. I wasn't so busy the first couple of months of school....even with all the swine flu and whatnot. But these past two weeks have been totally nuts. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when flu season REALLY starts! Maybe we are past the worst of it already...but I doubt it.
Tomorrow I am participating in a Flu Mist clinic to get the people in Georgetown immunized against seasonal flu. I am pretty excited about it. It will be good practice for me as I am opening up an immunization clinic at my school. I have done these before, but not on the level we are going to do tomorrow. AND, since I have no social life to speak of, this gives me an opportunity to really hone my immunization-giving skills. Wish me luck!
We had a Veteran's Day program at school today and some retired and active-duty personnel came to the school to speak to the kids. It was really a neat thing to see and be a part of. Made me very happy and proud and full of American Spirit. (cue the cheesey music)
I have been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving this year. It will be the BIG holiday for our family since most everyone will be here. Christmas will be a smaller event than normal, so Turkey Day is totally ON! I am ready to set up my Christmas tree already. HAHAHA So are a lot of you, I know. I have seen your posts! Don't try to deny it. :)
That's all I have for now. XOXO

Watch out!
First cat confirmed to have H1N1
By Mary Ann Roser Wednesday, November 4, 2009, 02:06 PM
It turns out cats can get H1N1, too.
A 13-year-old Iowa cat tested positive swine flu, making it the first time the current strain has been diagnosed in a cat, the American Veterinary Medical Association announced today.
The cat has recovered.
Before today, the veterinary association said the disease has been in humans, pigs, birds and ferrets. I didn’t know about ferrets; that’s also a recent finding.
The association said the cat probably caught the virus from someone it lives with.
“The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) are reminding pet owners that some viruses can pass between people and animals, so this was not an altogether unexpected event,” the news release says. “Pet owners should monitor their pets’ health very closely, no matter what type of animal, and visit a veterinarian if there are any signs of illness.”
There’s a good Q&A about animals and H1N1 on the association’s site, and you might find it interesting reading.
